The Women of that era depicted in the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma

*
It is important to note that these women were secluded and their movement was confined to their homes.
The devices of attraction - their jewels and dress - were directed solely at their husbands
and did not ever meet the public eye.
Literature as recent as 1920s by Tagore and Saratchandra
provide beautiful accounts of woman's life in India.
Contained within those tales,
is the sublime spirit of romance lived out by those women.
The surviving jewels from that era, bear a silent testimony to that old lost world.
